Albinism Society of Kenya was privileged to visit the Mpesa Academy, world class mixed secondary school located in Thika. The team took time to learn from the best on quality education, under the leadership of its visionary CEO Mr. Les Baillie. The school is all-inclusive with students from various backgrounds such as those with disabilities, HIV positive, pastoralist communities among others. The team lead by Hon. Dr. Mwaura M. Isaac was able to interact with past pupils with albinism and those with physical disability from Thika School for the blind and Joytown primary school. The team got a chance to motivate and encourage the students on possibilities for a better future if they continue to work hard and smart. Modeled around the Oprah Winfrey Johannesburg and Starehe girls’ schools, the institution admits applicants in an open manner, especially those from poor backgrounds and with talent in any field including leadership and the arts. As Horace Mann said, “Education is the great equalizer”. Five form one students with albinism are beneficiaries of the school.
